100 Ways to Cook Bacon
Posted by Thomas in 100 Ways to Cook on June 3, 2010
This is going to be the first in a series of articles I hope to write on a weekly basis. Since I’m not in school right now and I find myself with a lot of free time, I tend to spend it on the internet stumbling. Over the past few weeks I’ve been coming across tons and tons of recipes that I had never seen before. I tend to frequent a lot of recipe sites so I can try out new things, but I’ve found that a lot of the good stuff isn’t listed on generic recipe websites but actually come from other bloggers.
So, with this series I hope to let you in on some of the well kept secrets out there as well as send a little bit of traffic to the small sites like this one. I have plenty of time to kill and I love finding new recipes so I’m going to find the good stuff for you!
So here we go, 100 Amazing Recipes - Bacon Edition.
Appetizers:
After breakfast foods, I would say that appetizers are the second thing that comes to mind when I hear the word bacon. Bacon works so well as an appetizer because it can be used in such a variety of ways, the most popular seeming to be either chopped up finely or used to wrap something. However it’s used, it’s sure to make any dish taste great.
Bacon Crescents:

This recipe consists of two different cheeses, bacon, and crescent rolls. What’s not to love? This is a great finger food for any occasion.
These “Bacon Cookies” aren’t as sweet as some of the items to come later on in this post, but what makes them special is their versatility. “They are the perfect base for savoury spreads and toppings, but are just as delightful all on their own” says Kelly from Evil Shenanigans.
I never would have thought of bacon and jam in the same recipe, but sure enough, it exists. This was one of the many jams I found in my search but this one definitely looked the best.
I’m usually not a huge fan of mushrooms, but they’re starting to grow on me if they’re cooked in certain ways. Mushrooms stuffed with bacon and cheese is definitely one mushroom recipe I think I could manage to stomach.
There is an amazing restaurant where I live called Prejeans and it serves the most amazing shrimp I’ve ever had. It’s a butterflied jumbo shrimp stuffed with taso and cream cheese, wrapped in bacon, and then deep fried. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any similar recipes, so I went for the next best thing. So until I manage to make this dish on my own, normal shrimp fried and wrapped in bacon will have to do (as if this isn’t enough).
Cheese Stuffed and Bacon-Wrapped Peppers:

This was an obvious recipe when I was doing my search. This easily could have been one of a hundred different recipes, but this one stood out for it’s simplicity and the use of a pepper other than a jalapeno. What’s great about this dish is that just about any pepper can be used and just about any kind of cheese mixture can be put inside. Great stuff.
I had never seen or heard of this one before, so I had to include it on the list. This simple and creative take on the traditional BLT looks like it would be a great appetizer.
Beer Cheese Cupcakes with Bacon Cheddar Cream Cheese Frosting:

Wow, I don’t even know where to start with this one. I didn’t know exactly where to put this recipe on the list. It’s a cupcake, but it doesn’t exactly seem sweet enough to be a dessert. It’s also not enough to be a main dish, but too small for a side dish. The author made these for a superbowl party, which seems perfect. I could definitely see this going among the many trays of bite sized snacks laid out for a superbowl spread. I definitely want to try these out.
I recently tried goat cheese for the first time a couple of months ago at my sister’s apartment. We went to a local wine and specialty food store and got a bunch of different cheeses and crackers and a few different drinks to try out. The goat cheese we got was covered in different types of herbs and I absolutely fell in love. I can only imagine what it would taste like wrapped in bacon.
Bacon Wrapped Artichoke Hearts:
This is the perfect appetizer. Small portions, very few ingredients, quick to cook, and super tasty.
Wow, this one looks amazing. This is another one of the dishes that would definitely lend itself to a superbowl party (or any sporting event for that matter). Looks like it would go great with chips but also thick enough to spread on crackers.
Breakfast:
Bacon is a staple among breakfast foods, right up there with eggs. Of course the most popular use is probably just throwing bacon in a pan and frying it up really quick, but you don’t always have to take the easy way out. If you ever find yourself with a little bit of extra time in the morning, or are planning a breakfast in bed for that special someone, make sure to check out some of these awesome recipes.
The Ultimate Breakfast Pancake:
I am not a big fan of fruit on breakfast foods, but just look at that picture. It makes my mouth water just looking at it. I don’t think I could turn this down.
Swiss and Cheddar Quiche with Bacon:
I’m a huge fan of one dish type meals. The less clean up the better. This is a very simple quiche that looks amazing.
Deep-Fried Bacon and Eggs with Lemon-Egg Vinaigrette:
I never in my life would have thought of doing this, and even if I had I probably would have had doubts that it was even possible. This recipe looks great and the author took lots of pictures to show the step by step process. Awesome site and an awesome recipe!
I’ve had breakfast pizzas before, though sadly they were microwavable. I had no idea you could just crack open an egg on pizza dough and bake it with no problems. Looks really good!
I saw this recipe a while back and I feel like this is one of those dishes that would really impress your friends. Doesn’t look too difficult to make, but it looks great.
Not sure how I feel about bacon inside of the pancake itself, but it probably tastes a lot better than I imagine. At any rate, you can’t deny that this looks pretty tasty.
Again, not sure how I feel about this. Usually when I’m in the mood for donuts it’s because I want something really sweet for breakfast. I could see this being pretty good though. The author has lots of great pictures illustrating the process, good stuff!
Man, when I saw this my mouth started to water. I know I just got finished saying I don’t like sweet and savory together that much, but for some reason this just looks delicious.
I like the idea of using premade biscuit dough and just throwing ingredients on top. Super simple and I imagine there are tons of possibilities with this one.
Brussels Sprout and Bacon Hash:
I’ve been trying my hand at creating my own type of breakfast hash the past few weeks. I’ve had a few successes, but this one is out of my league. Again, I would have never thought of throwing in brussel sprouts into the mix. I actually came across quite a few brussel sprout and bacon recipes, must be a good combination.000
Here’s another one that made my mouth drop when I saw it. I’ll definitely be making this one in the near future.
Main Course:
One doesn’t often think of bacon as a main course. Even the majority of the following recipes don’t use bacon as a main ingredient, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Bacon makes for a great accent to almost any dish. Check out some of these for what’s sure to be a great dinner.
I never really had meatloaf a whole lot when I was younger, and I still don’t have it much today. On occasion I’ve ordered a meat loaf at a restaurant and I’ve really enjoyed it. This definitely looks like one of the meatloafs I’d enjoy.
I love rice, absolutely love it. I’m always trying to come up with different ways to use it. Whenever I know I’m going to cook a dish involving rice I usually make about twice the amount necessary so that I have some left over to use the next day for another dish. This is another recipe I’m definitely going to be trying in the near future.
I’m a big fan of meat and stuffings. I’m use to seeing chickens and pork chops stuffed with some mixture of rice and other ingredients, but this one doesn’t look half bad!
Bacon, Pesto, and Tomato Strata:
When I saw this picture I thought it looked amazing. Then I had to go and look up what a “Strata” actually was. Turns out it’s just a casserole that typically involves eggs. This dish looks amazing. Cream cheese and bacon, nice!
Spicy Chicken & Bacon Pasties:
I love meat pastries but I’ve never tried making my own. I also don’t know anywhere around me that sells anything like this, so this is definitely a dish that I’m going to have to try my hand at.
I actually found this one while looking for cheap recipes, specifically bacon ramen. This turned up in my search and it looked so good that I had to include it.
Pasta is another one of my favorite dishes, and I love spinach as well. The addition of bacon in the mix puts this one over the top.
Strawberry Creek Inn’s Shrimp and Grits:
I had actually never tried grits until about two years ago. It was just never something that my mom made when I was younger and I never had the urge to try it out on my own. Well, needless to say I really enjoyed it. I also really enjoy the combination of bacon and shrimp, so this one is looking pretty sweet.
I’ve never eaten polenta before, but this dish makes me want to start.
Bacon Wrapped Chicken with Cheddar and Almonds:
You can’t have a list of bacon dishes without having something wrapped in bacon. I’ve actually tried dishes similar to this one before and they never quite turn out looking as good as this, but they sure do taste good.
This looks super good. Peppers, chorizo, and bacon! You can’t really go wrong on a pizza with those ingredients.
Chicken and Bacon Risotto with Peas:
My friends always make fun of me because of the dishes I make while I’m in school living in the dorms. One of the dishes I made most often was rice, chicken (or tuna), and peas. Everyone always said that it looked and smelled gross and that I was weird for eating it. Well I hope all of you guys can see this, I’m not the only one who eats it!
Side Dishes:
Side dishes always seem to be an after thought when I’m cooking my meals. I usually plan for a main dish and just throw some vegetable from a can on the side. I know that’s terrible, but it’s quick and easy. Below are some easy to make side dishes that use bacon to really stand out and make a great dish rather than a second-rate filler.
My mom had a recipe for biscuits with bacon and cheese in them. I would make a batch every few weeks, stick it in the fridge and pick one up for a snack throughout the next few days. This reminds me of that recipe. Looks awesome.
Everything I said about the above dish pretty much applies here as well. Good stuff!
I really love spinach, but I never know what to make it with. This will be a dish I’ll be trying soon. Looks great!
Cheddar, Bacon, and Fresh Chive Biscuits:
Nice! This looks exactly like my mom’s recipe. This stuff is good, you all should definitely try this one out.
This is something I’ve never tried before, and I’m honestly not in any rush to change that. However, I didn’t come across anything similar while looking at recipes, so I thought it was worth a mention.
Green beans are a great side dish that go well with lots of dishes. Throwing bacon to the mix can only make them that much better.
Brussel Sprouts with Bacon & Garlic:
Brussel Sprouts get a bad rap for some reason. I think it’s ingrained in our heads as children that brussel sprouts are the worst vegetable there is and that if you don’t eat your corn or peas, you’ll be forced to eat brussel sprouts. However, once you get over all of that, brussel sprouts really are pretty good. Here is another dish with the presence of bacon just makes the dish that much better. The bacon doesn’t always have to be a focal point in the dish to make it great.
Asparagus Bundles with Bacon, Panko , and Chili Mayonnaise:
Vegetables wrapped in bacon and deep fried. Nice!
Broccoli Salad with Bacon and Raisins:
Here’s one that’s definitely on the lighter side. I’m not a huge fan of raisins, but this one looks pretty decent.
Soups:
I never really thought of bacon being used in soups that often, especially not as a focal point. Turns out there are quite a few recipes out there that use bacon in a soup. Soups are one of those foods that I don’t eat a whole lot of, but I really enjoy when I get a chance to have it. Part of the reason I never eat it is because I never knew how to make it. I always start with a base from a can, which isn’t ideal. These recipes below are fairly simple to follow and it looks like they all turned out pretty great
Corn and Blue Cheese Chowder with Bacon:
This looks like a hearty, and very filling soup. In my opinion, those are the best kind.
Bacon is more of a garnish than anything else in this dish, but it’s all good. Can’t go wrong with anything that has “Jalapeno Popper” in the name.
Idaho Baked Potato Soup with Bacon:
This is one of the few items on this post that I’ve actually had before. I haven’t had this particular recipe, but I’ve made my own take on this dish and it turned out great. I’m sure this one is just as good.
Sweet Potato Soup with Maple and Bacon:
I love sweet potatoes and this picture made my mouth water. I’ve had sweet potato casserole and sweet potato pie, but sweet potato soup is something I’ve never had. This one is going on the list of things to try soon.
Spicy Corn Chowder with Bacon and Chives:
Another reason I usually don’t eat soup is because they tend to have lots of vegetables that I don’t particularly like. This dish is fairly simple and has a lot of basic ingredients that you probably have lying around. Looks really good!
Roasted Pumpkin Bisque with Bacon:
I’ve never had many foods that had pumpkin in them, but this one looks like something I’d eat without thinking twice about it.
Dessert:
Well, this section is really what shocked me the most. I knew going in that I was bound to find a handful of desserts because of the recent bacon craze, but I had no idea I would find this many. I’ve seen chocolate bars with bacon in the stores before, but some of the stuff below I can honestly say I have never heard of. Check out the recipes below if you’re feeling a little crazy.
I’ve heard of some of the stuff on the dessert portion of my list, but I had never heard of chocolate chip and bacon cookies. Has anyone had this before? How is it?
The author compares this recipe to a SKOR bar with bacon. I’ve never had a SKOR bar before so I don’t know what this would taste like. It does look pretty good though.
Dang! Chocolate chocolate chip cookies with bacon. Seriously? This title is very fitting.
The Ultimate Bacon Chocolate Cupcakes:
To those out there who say that most of these dishes are just crumbled up bacon on top of normal foods, you’d be mistaken. This one actually uses the rendered bacon fat in the cupcake mix. Ha, craziness.
I’ve never been a huge fan of toffee, but I didn’t come across any similar recipes in my searching so I thought I’d throw this one in.
Lily’s Fairtrade Bacon and Banana Cakes:
Bananas are one of the few fruits that I like eating by itself. However, I’ve never been able to find a dish I like that has bananas in it. Here’s to hoping that changes with this dish!
Wow, this looks awesome. That’s all I have to say.
Pecan pie is sooooo good. This is another dish that actually uses bacon in ways other than a topping.
Candied bacon is something I came across a few times in my search and is actually used in a few of these recipes. I’m willing to bet this one actually doesn’t taste that bad.
I love when my mom makes pralines. It’s a holiday tradition around my house. I’m not sure how I feel about bacon being in them, but it’s probably pretty tasty.
I actually thought that the bacon was what you see on the outside of the truffle, but it’s actually black pyramid salt. The bacon is on the inside of the truffle. Very interesting.
A bacon candy bar? Sure, why not.
I can honestly see this one being pretty decent. It doesn’t seem like too out there of a combination.
Smoked Bacon and Egg Ice Cream:
All I can say about this one after looking at the recipe is that it looks interesting. I don’t know that I’ll ever try making this, but if someone offered it to me I would probably eat it.
I’ve only had Bak’lava one time in the past and I thought it was alright. I wouldn’t be too weirded out by seeing bacon in a bak’lava.
Bacon Salted Caramel Brownies:
I was never a huge fan of brownies, but I do want to give these a try.
Drinks:
Bacon drinks? Yeah, it shocked me too. When I started laying out this post I didn’t even include this as a section. I had seen the bacon flavored syrup once before, but I was just going to include that in a different section. To my surprise I found that there is quite a bit of drink recipes out there that involve bacon. Craziness.
Ha, this one gets 10 points for presentation. This looks like something you have to try at least once, even if you don’t like bloody maries.
Maple Miso Bacon Ice Cream Bourbon Root Beer Floats:
Wow, I’m speechless.
Really? Just when you think there is nothing left to do with bacon. It doesn’t end here either.
Yes, one of the many bacon mixed drinks out there.
Ha, this is another picture that gets a 10 for presentation. The traditional BLT in cocktail form.
Now you can get your bacon fix along with your caffeine fix!
Outrageous:
Let me preface this by mentioning that the title of “Outrageous” isn’t meant to be insulting in anyway. These recipes look pretty awesome, it’s just that they’re probably some of the most unhealthy things you could ever eat. But it’s all good, you can treat yourself every once and a while, right?
This is the classic outrageous bacon recipe. Most people who claim to be on the internet for lengthy amounts of time will probably have seen this one already. Also, I should mention that the picture above isn’t the original that you’ll see if you click the link. I got this from a cool site called Bleu Chocolate.
As if frying it one time wasn’t good enough!
Fried and Stuffed Hot Dog Wrapped in Bacon and Deep Fried:
A hot dog is hollowed out, filled with cheese, wrapped in bacon, fried, coated in battered, then deep fried. Wow!
Krispy Kreme Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburgers:
Ha, I bet your mouth is watering now!
This one is all over the internet. I came across this and other similar recipes many times. It seems like people can’t help but try and top each other in who can have a heart attack the fastest. But hey, it probably tastes good, so who cares!
Forget the explosion, check out this take on bacon overload - The Implosion.
The famous turducken, but wrapped in bacon. A southerner’s dream! (Seriously, someone needs to cook this up so I can try it)
French Fry Coated Bacon on a Stick:
Haha, I laughed really hard when I saw this one.
Watch this all the way through, you won’t regret it!
Chocolate Bacon “NOT Gingerbread” Cake House:
Nice! Looks like a fun project during Christmas season.
Yum!
Ha, the author suggests popping a mint before eating another food that you can’t cover in bacon yourself so that you’ll have the flavor in your mouth. Good idea, sir!
Yeaah, I associate bacon with grease. Definitely wouldn’t want to rub this on any part of my face.
Please don’t eat this. It’s actually a recipe for soap. I just thought this was crazy and I had to include it.
Healthy:
Yeah, bacon really isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when you think of healthy recipes. But that doesn’t mean you have to avoid it together, just try to make smart decisions. The occasional “outrageous” bacon recipe might be alright, just don’t make it a daily routine. If you have to have bacon on a regular basis try and make sure you get the healthiest stuff available, mostly the center cuts of bacon. Also, don’t forget about bacon alternatives like turkey bacon. Check out this article over at WebMD for more information.
Bacon Quinoa with Almonds and Herbs:
I don’t even know what Quinoa is, but it looks tasty.
Another interesting take on the classic BLT.
Pork and Pink Bean Soup with Corn Muffin Croutons:
This may be the only dish in this post that I don’t think I’d try, but it was something different and I thought it was worth posting. I know not everyone out there dislikes beans as much as I do.
French-Style Chicken with Peas & Bacon:
This dish uses the fat left over from frying the bacon as a base for the sauce. Can’t go wrong with that.
Orecchiette with Broccoli, Bacon, and Lemon:
Here is another dish that I liked upon first seeing it, but had to look up what exactly it was. I discovered that orecchiette is just a certain type of pasta. This recipe actually uses bacon as a replacement for the traditional anchovies. Good substitute in my opinion!
Yet another dish wrapped in bacon. Can’t go wrong with that.
Crunchy Asian Pea Salad with Honeyed Bacon:
Try replacing the bacon with Chinese sausage for an interesting change up!
Like I mentioned earlier, I’m not a huge fan of mushrooms, but this one looks like it would be pretty good.
This looks like a super light side dish that would go great with just about anything.
I’ve always wanted to try making a soup with peas, I imagine it tastes pretty good. And with a name like “witches’ brew” I want to try it that much more!
Cheap:
While a few of the meals above would probably qualify in this category, I decided to put some of the bare bone, straight to the point bacon dishes here. Bacon in itself isn’t super expensive and can be paired with lots of other not-so-pricey ingredients which allows you to have a great meal on the cheap!
I couldn’t have a list of bacon recipes with out the BLT. Nothing fancy here, just a well executed take on the classic recipe.
Every college student knows that ramen is one of the cheapest things you can possibly make. There are lots of varieties out there, but I’m sure chicken and bacon would make an amazing addition to the classic ramen. I should note that this recipe didn’t actually have any pictures. I just googled “Bacon Ramen” and picked the first one that looked good. Thanks PaulMdx.
This was a dish I saw multiple times while searching for recipes to put on the list. I chose this one because it seemed to be the simplest dish and the picture looked amazing. Can’t go wrong with that!
Peanut-Butter, Tomato, and Bacon Sandwich:

This is an interesting one that I’m pretty sure I would never have thought of making. Peanut-Butter and bacon sound weird enough (thought not as weird after seeing the dessert section of the article), but peanut-butter and tomato? The author points out that some Indonesian dishes combine peanuts and tomatoes, so I guess it’s not so out there. If any of you are willing to or have already tried this, drop a comment and let us know how it tastes.
Baked Eggs and Bacon in Potato Bowls:

This recipe is super cheap and looks like it could be a filling meal if you had a large potato, or two small ones. I’ve never heard of baking an egg into a potato before, but it sure looks like it would be good.
Well, that does it for the first edition of 100 Amazing Recipes. I’m hoping to write one a week, but we’ll see how that goes. I hope you all enjoyed the article and found some new recipes to try.
